The National Quality Award

TKU was the first university in Taiwan to employ the system of Total Quality Management (TQM), introduced into the university in 1992 by the founder, Dr. Clement C. P. Chang. This management model has increased the quality of teaching, research, and service at TKU.

Tamkang's history can be divided into four stages: the introduction period (1993 to 1998), groundwork period (1999 to 2006), advancement period (2007 to 2014), and transcending period (2015 to present). In 2006, TKU initiated the Tamkang Quality Award to recognize outstanding colleges and departments committed to TQM. In 2009, due to its continual efforts to evolve and improve, TKU was awarded the 19th National Quality Award. Besides, in 2018, Chairperson of TKU, Dr. Flora Chia-I Chang, won the Business Excellence Award of the 25th National Quality Award. In the future, TKU will continue to ensure customer satisfaction by setting up a comprehensive platform for knowledge management. It will serve as a benchmark for the development of TQM in Taiwan by implementing innovative management policies. Through its range of creative credit programs, TKU will cater to students’ multi-faceted learning needs. And by working with its alumni, TKU will continue to produce "enterprises favorite graduates" and generate positive social change.

Enterprises’ Favorite Private University

For 25 consecutive years, TKU graduates have been voted as "Top 2000 Enterprises' Favorites College Graduates" in a survey conducted by Cheers Business Magazine. There are “nine essential qualities” identified by the survey, including:

Among them, there are seven diverse qualities TKU graduates ranked first among all graduates from private universities in Taiwan, even exceeds many highly-rated national universities. From the view of the intensedly competitive job market, magnificent results emerged. During their learning at TKU, students are shaped into confident professionals who are highly sought after by enterprises in various fields. The key to this process lies in TKU’s Three Circles (professional curriculum, general curriculum, extracurricular curriculum) and Five Disciplines of Education (conduct, intelligence, physical education, teamwork, and beauty). TKU also emphasizes the development of a global perspective, information literacy, a vision for the future, moral integrity, independent thinking, a cheerful attitude and healthy lifestyle, a spirit of teamwork and dedication and a sense of aesthetic appreciation. One other key factor that employers view as invaluable when hiring is the ability to lead. TKU instills this ability in students through various leadership-oriented courses and compulsory extracurricular activities. International Safe School Designation

TKU has been continually improving its status as a work-safe and student-friendly campus. It has conducted a thorough review of its performance in this area based on the seven indicators listed in the Safe School Criteria.

Moreover, it has established committees to address the various issues covered in the indicators, while at the same time working with local government and community organizations to obtain an unbiased assessment of its overall safety standards.

The recommendations offered by the assessment committee were both feasible and practical. For example, the committee recommended that TKU set up an online system to record in detail all campus-based accidents, as well as the cause of such accidents, their locations and frequency of occurrence. It also recommended that TKU establish its own evaluation mechanism to assess the results of any implemented changes.

In 2008, TKU was named by the WHO as an International Safe School. Subsequently, in 2012, it passed the WHO Safe School Re-evaluation. It is the first university in the world to be recognized as a safe school. In the future, TKU will continue to ensure that its campuses are work-safe and student-friendly environments.

AI + SDGS = ∞

"AI + SDGS = ∞", the medium to long-term development vision of our university, has been certified as a registered trademark by the Ministry of Economic Affairs Intellectual Property Office on February 7, 2023.

TKU continuously promote the key tasks of “digital transformation” and “sustainable development”, plan to cultivate students' interdisciplinary competence in “AI and sustainability,” use AI as the primary tool for digital transformation, and accelerate the realization of SDGs. This includes establishing the College of Precision Healthcare, launching the College of Win Semiconductor Manufacturing, upgrading the Cloud Campus 2.0, implementing the New East Village and Future Hall long-term projects, establishing a cloud-based PBX system, constructing a campus safety and energy-saving network, and continuously commissioning the installation of solar photovoltaic systems by SINBON Electronics in both Taipei and Lanyang campuses. This aims to enhance students' employability in the future AI sustainability era. We are committed to equipping all faculty and staff with AI knowledge and encouraging the integration of AI into various fields to achieve SDGs, nurturing sustainable interdisciplinary talents.

Furthermore, through strategic alliances with Microsoft Taiwan and Far EasTone Telecommunications, we are building a fully cloud-based intelligent campus 2.0. We are implementing MS 3AP and 5G/B5G campus agile communication, integrating Microsoft cloud tools, and utilizing human intelligence and AOAI ChatGPT artificial intelligence technology for human-machine collaboration, developing the automated process to enhance administrative efficiency and realize concrete actions and benefits in support of sustainability.

The specific achievements are as follows:

In 2023, TKU ranked globally between 201st and 300th in the Times Higher Education World University Impact Rankings. In three SDGs, the university ranked in the top 100 globally: 59th in SDG4; 27th in SDG6; and 25th in SDG7.
In 2022, the university won the gold medal of Energy Saving Leadership Award of Ministry of Economic Affairs.
In 2022, it received the gold medal of the inaugural Asia-Pacific Sustainable Action Award (APSAA).
The "2021 Sustainability Report" received the Gold Award of Taiwan Corporate Sustainable Award (TCSA).

Approval Ratings

In the survey of "2023 Taiwan's Best Universities" by Global Views Monthly magazine, our university has once again secured the top position among private universities in the "Humanities and Social Sciences University" category and ranks third nationally.
In the 2023 U.S. News & World Report Global Best Universities Rankings, we are honored to achieve the 15th position nationally and become the top non-medical private university in the country.
In the latest October 2022 release of the "World's Top 2% Scientists" list, our university proudly had a total of 28 faculty members, students, and alumni included, ranking as the top non-medical private university in the country.
In the 2023 Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, we are honored to achieve the 13th position nationally and become the top non-medical private university in the country.
Tamkang’s Counselling Career Development and Learning Center was awarded by Taiwan and Counselling Association (TGCA) as the “School of Excellence in Counseling Performance 2022" for its excellent performance in school counseling practice and endeavor.
On January 6th, 2009, TKU was the first academic institution in the world to be certified as complying with the standards of the IT Service Management System-ISO/IEC 20000-1: 2005.
In 2009, TKU received an award for Excellence in Physical Education from the MOE, and it is the only university in Taiwan to have received this honor. In 2013, 2016 and 2020, TKU received the award again.
In 2011, 2012 and 2013, TKU received the R.O.C. Enterprises Environmental Award and received the prestigious EPA Environmental Award.
In September 2013, TKU received the 2013 Friendly Campus Award from the MOE, the only university in Taiwan to win the prize.
TKU won an excellent rating from the MOE for guidance in the quality of internationalization among institutions of higher education.
